Need suggestions for a rig to play EVE

When I triple box, my video card tends to become the limiting factor with the clients occasionally dipping below 60 FPS. But then, I play with all clients on high with anti-aliasing disabled and HDR disabled. Back before Incarna triple boxing was buttery smooth at 60 FPS with nary a dip in frame rate. I probably have a slightly better video card. LOL.

In case anyone cares, I have another thread up here about the overall build here if anyone wants to see what I have come up with.

Also, if I am to play EVE at a high level (i.e. I make this my main game that I dedicate most of my gaming time to) is multiboxing required? Or is that for the super hardcore people.

Just depends on what you want to do and how much patience you have. If you don't have the patience to train each race, then you'll have multiple accounts for each race. But in the end, all the skills synergize to each other. I'm a rather casual player but I still have two accounts. It's really limited to your imagination. Some people do cool stuff like dualbox ratting or mission running and blow through them really fast.

Depends on what you do. If you rat in null sec, mission in high sec or mine, then multiboxing is more preferred (mainly for missions so you can easily salvage and loot, and mining for a dedicated hauler/orca and a miner).

I forgot to mention; When I'm out and about doing stuff, and even in station, I have 200 fps with my GTX 580. I also enable caching which uses more RAM, so that could help boost my FPS, but either way 200 is obscene. Even with caching, the game only takes 800 megabytes of RAM. Even still it looks beautiful.

If you do small gang PVP you will quickly find that having 1 more ship is very useful, doubly so if you are "soloing". Besides just flying one account can be pretty boring, you don't really experience how fun eve can be until you are fcing and scouting on multiple grids at once(Bonus points if you do it on one monitor).

I went overboard on my machine but I also build them to last a very long time and is open to make a few minor upgrades before building a whole new machine 5 years or so down the line.

In short the game is unreal when you have hardware that can use the max video settings but it is not necessary. EVE is one of those games that will run just fine on an older machine but you will have to adjust in game settings to give you the performance you want. One final note, if you participate in massive fleet battles in EVE, you will want to tone down the settings anyway to be sure your hardware doesn't get in the way of participating. Otherwise it's just server lag (now "Time Dilation").

Hold up, jumping back for a bit, can you have multiple clients playing different toons on one account? i.e. if i had two characters on my one account (bob and sue), could I play bob on one client and sue on another. Or is that not possible.
